The Kurpark Bad Neuenahr is a listed park that is part of the overall architectural complex of the Kurbezirk. Together with the Thermalbadhaus, the Steigenberger Kurhotel, and the Kurhaussaal with casino, the Kurpark forms the historic spa district of the Bad Neuenahr district. Located on the southern edge of the Kurpark is the Kurparkterrassen building. This is a two-storey building with a basement. Constructed in solid masonry in 1972, the building was severely damaged in the basement and ground floor by the flood disaster in July 2021. A water level of 1.78 meters above the floor level was measured in the ground floor. Before the flood disaster, the ground floor was used as office space by Ahrtal Marketing GmbH (AMG) and as a temporary event space ("Kleine Bühne") as compensation for the already demolished concert hall opposite. The use corresponded to a municipal administrative and event building (Bürgerhaus). The first floor was used for meetings, courses, and storage areas. The basement housed storage and social rooms. Furthermore, due to the flood, the then-existing technical building of the Großer Sprudel was destroyed. The well technology was then temporarily moved to the outdoor area and is now to be integrated into the basement of the Kurparkterrassen building. To accommodate the new and growing space requirements of the AMG, a possible renovation with potential expansion was examined within the first planning process. Due to the given technical feasibility of the building, a cost comparison of renovation and new construction was created in the further course of the preliminary design planning. The result was that renovation and expansion of the building not only represents the more economical solution, but also the more sustainable one - CO2 savings, the use of already built cubic capacity and the preservation of the overall architectural concept. The Kurparkterrassen building forms a complete ensemble with the new construction of the Kurpark properties. In terms of design, the Kurparkterrassen building is based on the new construction of the Kurpark properties. This ensemble is completed by the restoration of the former colonnade (Wandelgang) between the new construction of the Kurpark properties and the Kurparkterrassen building.
