Germany – Medical equipments – Erweiterung und Sanierung Klinikum Altmühlfranken Weißenburg 1. BA (Unterbauabschnitt 1a)

In 2008, the Klinikum Altmühlfranken in Weißenburg was expanded to include a specialist medical centre. Now, due to age-related wear and tear and deficiencies in space and functionality, the hospital is to be comprehensively renovated and expanded in two construction phases. This tender for construction and equipment planning includes the first construction phase BA1 and, within it, the two sub-phases BA1A and BA1E.

BA1 – 1st Construction Phase

In the first construction phase, the existing functional wing will be replaced by a new building (BA1A) and subsequently renovated or converted for subsequent use (BA1B). In addition, the existing entrance hall will be expanded and renovated (BA1E).

BA1A - New Building: The new building in the south-east of the site is planned as a compact structure with an ideal floor plan organisation and direct connection to the main entrance. The new building will house all the highly equipped core functions of the hospital: - Basement: AEMP, laboratory, changing rooms, archive, laundry exchange, technical facilities - Ground Floor: ZEA/ZNA with new patient access and outpatient entrance, radiology, endoscopy, functional diagnostics, maternity - 1st Floor: Operating Department with Same-Day Surgery, Intensive Care, On-Call Duty - 2nd Floor: Technical Facilities

The floor plan provides for a centrally located public access corridor running east-west, along which the individual functional areas and the vertical access with lift core are arranged. On the 1st floor, an inner courtyard will also be created, ensuring the lighting of the corresponding departments. In this tailor-made new building, optimal hospital processes will be achieved and the primary functional deficiencies of the existing structure will be eliminated. The autonomous construction of the new functional wing BA1A will allow ongoing operations in the existing structure to continue uninterrupted.

BA1E - New Building/Renovation Entrance Hall: The new building and its connection to the existing structure will create a new entrance situation and thus a new futuristic urban design for the hospital. To this end, the existing entrance hall will be expanded/straightened on the entrance level, creating a clear, unambiguous access. The entrance hall, located in a central position in the hospital, will be comprehensively renovated and will house general functions: - Ground Floor: Service facilities with reception/post office, pastoral care and social services - Upper Floors: Access with rest areas

During this renovation, a temporary main entrance can be provided from the north at the transition to the new building.

BA1B - Renovation of Existing Structure, Outlook (not part of this BAP): After the core functions of the hospital have been moved to the new building BA1A, the original functional wing will be converted accordingly and the following functions will be located there: - Basement: Supply and disposal, storage, housekeeping and transport service, maintenance/repair, waste disposal, pharmacy, technical facilities - Ground Floor: Physical therapy, medical service, on-call duty, catering with visitor/employee cafeteria with outdoor area - 1st Floor: Medical service, administration - 2nd Floor: Chapel, technical facilities

As part of the comprehensive renovation, a courtyard will be created on the 1st floor as a major structural intervention to provide lighting for the adjacent functions. The entire renovation can be carried out in one go, with only 4/7 of the existing catering in the 1st basement initially remaining and being moved back and converted accordingly after completion of the new catering on the ground floor.

BA2 - 2nd Construction Phase, Outlook (not part of this BAP)

In the second construction phase, nursing care will then be modernised at the Klinikum Altmühlfranken in Weißenburg. There are two possibilities for this: - Renovation and expansion of the existing nursing homes - New buildings for nursing care next to the newly constructed functional wing BA1A, which, with its positioning and floor plan layout, allows for an ideal connection to new nursing buildings.
