Deutschland – Unterbrechungsfreie Stromversorgung – CPS and UPS systems for SFRS and NUSTAR

The required CPS and UPS modules, as well as the external battery modules, serve as power supply systems. They are installed in 19"-racks. These racks are located along the beamline of the Super-FRS (Superconducting Fragment Separator), either directly at the beamline or in niches. The Super-FRS is part of the FAIR accelerator facility (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research), which is currently under construction in Darmstadt, Germany. At their operating location, the systems are therefore exposed to increased radiation levels and are difficult to access. Since the components connected to the racks (e.g., detectors and electronics) are sensitive to random power fluctuations and interruptions, the CPS (Clean Power Supply) modules are intended to provide possible interference-free power, while the UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) modules, combined with battery units, are used to maintain the power supply in the event of a power failure.
