New construction of the AL Gorlitzsch gas pipeline and relocation of the STEGAL

GASCADE Gastransport GmbH intends to convert the long-distance gas pipeline STEGAL (Sachsen-Thüringen-Erdgasleitung) to hydrogen transport as part of the national hydrogen core network in accordance with § 28q EnWG. The STEGAL, as one of the most important east-west long-distance pipelines in Germany, will thus play a central role in future hydrogen transport. As part of the infrastructure program "FLOW - making hydrogen happen", the STEGAL-West will be converted to hydrogen from Rückersdorf. With the conversion of the STEGAL, the energy-economic function of individual sections will also change. In particular, the previous natural gas feed to GeraNetz GmbH will be discontinued due to the transition to hydrogen operation. To ensure the continued supply of natural gas to the city of Gera and surrounding municipalities, in addition to the change of the STEGAL DN 800, the new construction of the connecting pipeline AL Gorlitzsch DN 250 is also necessary. The AL Gorlitzsch, as a natural gas reinforcing measure, is part of the approved hydrogen core network (Core Network ID 1013-01). The AL Gorlitzsch begins at the conversion shut-off station AS Rückersdorf of the STEGAL and then runs approximately 16 km parallel to the existing STEGAL. It ends at the AS Gorlitzsch and will be integrated into the AL Gera. In the same section, a relocation of the STEGAL west of the Weiße Elster is planned, which is necessary due to the planned renewal of the railway bridge over the federal highway 92. The relocation is to take place simultaneously with the construction of the AL Gorlitzsch to avoid hindering the process of converting the STEGAL to hydrogen.
