78464 Konstanz, Universitätsstr. 10, University of Konstanz, Building L, Refurbishment of Emergency Balcony System & General Structural Works, Engineering Services according to Part 4 Section 1 of the HOAI (Structural Design), The Chemistry Laboratory Building (L), Universitätsstraße 10 in Konstanz, was constructed between 1969 and 1972 as a standard laboratory building according to state laboratory building standards. The cruciform layout features laboratory and office spaces arranged around a core zone with a main staircase and CommonCenter. In the exterior area, an emergency balcony system with emergency staircases (reinforced concrete) complements the horizontally segmented band facade. According to the LBO, the building is classified as a special structure (university building and high-rise building with approx. 28.00 m height). The building is protected as a historic monument. Following a console breakage in the emergency balcony system in 2022, a comprehensive refurbishment of the emergency balcony system (complete replacement using steel construction) and concrete refurbishment of all concrete elements of the facade are required. As part of the necessary review of the fire safety concept, refurbishment in the interior (CommonCenter) is necessary. During the refurbishment work, close coordination with the University of Konstanz and consideration of the ongoing university operations are mandatory. The estimated construction costs (Cost Groups 300-400 according to DIN 276-1: 2008-12) amount to 34,243,375.00 € incl. VAT. Start of demolition works September 2026, start of emergency balcony works November 2027, completion of overall measure December 2030.
