Project Description: The former Catholic parish church of St. Lambertus in Bürgewald (formerly: Morschenich-Alt) is to be converted, along with the adjacent buildings of the parish house, parish hall, and mortuary and the surrounding outdoor facilities, into a "new community space" for the village. The overall programme comprises approximately 1,360 m2 of gross floor area and is distributed across five mostly single-storey buildings with partial basements. Future uses include, among others, an assembly room for approximately 150 people, a meeting point with a kitchen ("village kitchen"), a pavilion with multifunctional rooms ("future workshop"), a workshop ("house of making"), and a wellness offer ("village sauna"), each including ancillary rooms, sanitary facilities and offices.

Description of the freelance service: The services advertised here include the basic services of structural design in accordance with Part 4, Section 1, §§ 49 ff HOAI (2021) in phases 1-6, as well as special services in phases 3-5 and 7-9. The appointment is made in stages, i.e. initially for phases 1-5 and optionally for phases 6-9. The special services concern, among other things, evidence of earthquake resistance (earthquake zone 3), evidence of constructive fire protection, static evidence of timber and steel construction details, involvement in individual approvals, the representation of timber and steel construction details and the checking of workshop drawings in timber and steel construction.

Description of the type and scope of the service or indication of the needs and requirements: Since the project is publicly funded, the funding conditions, including sustainability, climate friendliness, energy efficiency and accessibility, must be complied with. In addition, the project is to become a pilot project in the field of circular construction, in which building materials and components from the existing structure are partially reused or passed on via building material exchanges ("Urban Mining"). Particular challenges of the project lie, among other things, in the damage to the church caused by a fire, the partly poor condition of the existing buildings and the identified contaminant occurrences and contaminations. Parts of the church and the soil of the entire planning area are under (soil) monument protection, so that measures such as the securing of free-standing natural stone walls and the upgrading/deepening of existing foundations must be carried out in coordination with the authorities.
