With the future legal entitlement to full-day care in primary schools (OGS), space requirements will change, making it necessary to adapt the spatial concept of schools and their full-day areas. To meet this requirement, the council of the district town of Unna has decided to renovate or refurbish the Katharinenschule. The Katharinenschule is operated as a three-stream primary school. Of the approximately 300 pupils currently enrolled, full utilization of the OGS is to be possible in the future, due to the legal entitlement to an open all-day school. However, to implement this concept, the interior spaces must be adapted to the new usage requirements through structural changes, and the existing buildings must be renovated. Furthermore, an extension is planned on the north side of the existing building/ House 2. This will accommodate the new kitchen and dining room, including ancillary rooms. The school extension is planned in hybrid construction. The choice of building materials and types of construction is to be developed economically from the solution of the task. Due to the plot layout, a two-story construction method is sensible. No basement is planned.
