Germany – Joinery and carpentry installation work – Ersatzneubau Erich-Kästner-Schule Marburg, Schreinerarbeiten Einrichtung
Description
The Erich Kästner School complex in Marburg-Cappel currently consists of several buildings. The individual buildings, which are partially connected by walkways and structures, each have a form language typical of their construction period, resulting in an amorphous overall appearance. No coherent design concept is discernible. The heterogeneous overall image lacks a clear "address" or defined entrance for the school. The available space no longer meets the demand. Parts of the afternoon care had to be relocated to the Bürgerhaus. The implementation of modern educational concepts is not possible in the existing floor plan structures. In addition, the existing buildings B and K have significant deficiencies such as lack of barrier-free access, functional and organizational deficiencies, structural defects, inadequate fire protection and a need for energy renovation. Due to the above points, it was decided to demolish buildings B and K and replace them with a new building, which will also include the additional spaces for care and canteen. In addition to eliminating the above deficiencies, the school will also gain a recognizable "address" through a well-placed main entrance. Buildings A, G, F, H and I will remain. Building A houses the administration, the teachers' lounge and 3 therapy rooms. The rooms in building G are used as special classrooms for music and crafts. Buildings H and I are used by the special school. Building A will receive a small extension with technical rooms and additional storage space. The existing building G will receive an emergency staircase as a 2nd escape route with access to the room currently used as a community room on the ground floor. Project Description Extension The building B currently adjacent to building A will be demolished. A part of the basement of building B will remain and serve as the base plate for a new single-story extension to the existing building A. At the demolition edges of the remaining basement, additions must be made. The new extension is planned in timber construction, with walls in timber frame construction (partially insulated) and a roof structure with roof beams, wooden cladding and foil sealing. The exterior walls will receive a ventilated, rear-ventilated wooden cladding. In the area of the demolition of building B, the existing gable roof of building A must be supplemented, with wooden rafters and tile covering. The new extension is planned to include a technical room for the new house connection for the electrical supply of the Erich Kästner School site, as well as a technical room for the heat supply of building A. In addition, a storage room for the school's play equipment will be created. Project Description New Building The new school building consists of two rectangular, slightly offset building sections connected at the junction by a central entrance hall. Due to the topography, the southern building section is three-story, with ground-level access to the lower schoolyard, and the northern building section is two-story, with access to the upper schoolyard. The entrance hall is the central access element of the building. Access is via the entrances from the lower and upper schoolyards. Via the open, spacious staircase, one can reach the respective floors, with the elevator also connected to the entrance hall ensuring barrier-free access to all floors. The clear design of the open entrance hall offers good views into all areas and thus ensures good orientation within the building. The entrance hall is not only a traffic area but also a central communication zone or meeting point for the students, and especially with the staircase widened to seating steps on the ground floor, invites you to linger. The ground floor area extends only under the southern building section. Located there, in the downhill area, is a central WC core as well as storage and technical rooms. Oriented towards the schoolyard is the large dining hall with an adjoining kitchen and the necessary ancillary rooms. The kitchen has its own delivery access from the south. The dining hall will have extensive glazing towards the schoolyard and a large opening to the entrance hall. This opening can be closed with a mobile partition wall, or opened to the entrance hall as needed, thus enabling versatile use of this area. The dining hall on the ground floor is to be made available to the citizens and clubs of Cappel for parties or other external events outside of school hours. The classrooms are located on the two upper floors. In each floor, per building section, there is a cluster, a so-called "learning house". The classrooms and differentiation rooms of the clusters group around a central middle zone, which serves both for access and as an extended teaching area. This middle zone is designed and furnished in such a way that it can be used for teaching purposes for individual or group work, as well as for care. Appropriate openings between the classrooms and the middle zone allow views and thus ensure good supervision of the children. Each cluster also contains a small teacher support point, so that the clusters are self-contained "autarkic" learning houses, with which the student community can identify and the group feeling is strengthened. On each floor, central toilets are located at the intersection between the two clusters, which can be reached from the learning houses in a short distance.
