Hamburg Energiewerke GmbH (HEnW) is a 100% municipal energy supplier. To achieve the climate goals of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the share of coal-based district heating is to be reduced from the current approximately 64% to zero by 2030. To this end, the "Tiefstack Transformation (TiTra)" program has been initiated. At the Heizkraftwerk (HKW) Tiefstack site, two hard-coal-fired steam generators currently produce electricity and district heating in combined heat and power (CHP) operation. To decarbonise this site, it is planned to substitute the fuel hard coal with natural gas (H-Gas). Additionally, the steam generators should be able to operate temporarily with low-sulphur heating oil EL (HEL according to DIN 51603-1).
