Netherlands – Construction work – Gevelherstel Flux
Description
Building Flux on the TU/e campus (completed in 2014) has a second skin facade of approximately 9,700 m². In 2024, it was determined that the rubbers of the outer glass profile are detaching and several glass panels have sagged, causing a high risk of glass failure. The building (29,630 m² BVO, 10 storeys, approx. 41 m high) has an educational and office function with several labs. Research by third parties and an external advisory firm resulted in a restoration report and technical description. Since the facade construction is not demonstrably safe, TU/e conducts periodic inspections, places restraints on glass panels, and uses drones for point cloud measurements. Ultimately, the entire second skin facade must be replaced. Building Flux is 29,630 m² BVO, has 10 storeys and is approx. 41 m high. The building has an educational and office function with several labs used by various Faculties. The second skin facade of Flux is approx. 9,700 m².
