Linderhof Palace, Moorish Kiosk: Repair of Roof and Facades

In the park of Linderhof Palace, the so-called Moorish Kiosk is being repaired. The object in question is the oldest still existing exhibition building (1867). The Moorish Kiosk, crowned with corner towers and a central dome at 12 m height, has a base area of approximately 9 m x 9 m. The cast-iron frame structure is braced with iron struts, square timber and plasterboard. The facade is clad with approximately 2,000 ornate bronze, zinc and cast-iron plates, which are elaborately coated and gilded. The exedra is an addition that was only added during the assembly in Linderhof in 1876. The aim of the current work is the fundamental restorative reworking of all elements of the outer skin and the structural components. In doing so, damage is to be repaired, the statics are to be improved and the surface is to be newly coated. The existing coating structure contains lead oxide and lead white. In addition, preventive measures for the protection of the building are to be integrated into the work. The renovation is carried out in four sections with an annual processing of one facade each in the north, west and east. The southern entrance facade requires a little longer due to special on-site processing. During the work, a rhythm is created by the dismantling of the facade panels in the autumn, their processing in the workshop of the commissioned restorers and the subsequent re-installation in the summer of the following year. Half a year offset and parallel to this, the two-year restoration of the roof areas under a temporary weather protection scaffolding, as well as the renovation of the staircase and the damaged retaining wall plaster, is carried out.
