Description

The Research Animal Facility (RAF) is a new, multifunctional animal testing facility, which aims to consolidate all animal testing facilities of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FDI). The facility provides space and infrastructure for fundamental and applied veterinary and biomedical in vivo research within a framework that guarantees animal welfare, biosafety and scientific quality. The facility provides, in the main, units suitable for infection experiments under containment level A2, as well as units suitable for activities without containment. The RAF provides accommodation for and the possibility to carry out (infection) studies in various types of laboratory animals (including birds, pigs, (small) ruminants, alpacas, horses, rodents, ferrets, rabbits, reptiles, amphibians, fish, crustaceans,..). The facility will be conceived as a ‘core facility’, and consequently, will also be made available for use by researchers outside the UGent.
