The Building Department of the Canton of Zurich, represented by the Building Authority, is organising, on behalf of the Property Office, a tender for the award of the general planning services (preliminary study, design, tendering and realisation) for the partial refurbishment of a school building of the Kantonsschule Wiedikon, at Schrennengasse 7, in 8003 Zurich. A general planning team led by an architecture and/or a construction management firm is sought, which meets the specific requirements for architecture and the local image, has experience in weighing up sustainable solutions in listed buildings and approaches the construction task with a high quality standard and sensitivity. A focus on costs and deadlines is also expected.

Construction project

The Kantonsschule Wiedikon is attended by around 1,000 students from the long and short term grammar schools and the vocational middle school. School lessons take place in two buildings. The original building on Goldbrunnenstrasse dates from 1901. The extension with an underground triple sports hall, a media library and a music room at Schrennengasse was built and occupied between 1973 and 1975. The basic structure of this building is largely in its original state and is listed in the inventory of municipal protected objects. To ensure the long-term provision of a modern school operation, the extension building is to be refurbished. The refurbishment needs will be examined in the preliminary study and agreed with the client. The structure is basically in good condition, but various components have reached the end of their service life after 50 years of operation. The building envelope also no longer meets today's requirements. The minimal thermal insulation results in large transmission losses and increased energy consumption. There are major deficiencies in terms of summer heat protection and the room climate in the classrooms needs to be improved.
