Citynetze Münster GmbH is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Stadtwerke Münster GmbH and operates as a modern network company the power, gas, water, heat, and fibre-optic networks in Münster. Founded in 2005 as Stadtwerke Münster Netzgesellschaft mbH, it was renamed to münsterNETZ GmbH in 2014. Since 1 September 2020, the company has operated under the name Stadtnetze Münster GmbH and is active as a reliable point of contact for local customers. The Communication Technology (KT) group within Stadtnetze Münster GmbH (SNMS) is responsible for the operation of the group-wide telephony, radio, video, and data technology and the associated fibre-optic and copper cable networks in the area of the city of Münster and beyond. In addition to voice communication, data communication for the power, gas, water, and district heating control centres, as well as the communication of public transport, heating plants, and wind and solar power plants, takes place on these networks. However, "office IT" services and systems fall outside the scope of responsibility. Thus, the focus is on voice communication and data transmission for critical infrastructure.
