BLS has operated a workshop for heavy and light maintenance of trains at the Oberburg site since 1977. Following the closure of the Bern Aebimatt site, the BLS Board of Directors decided on 28.10.2016 to concentrate future maintenance at the three sites of Spiez, Bönigen and Oberburg. A new workshop for the operational maintenance of the S-Bahn fleet is to be commissioned at the Oberburg site (Municipality of Burgdorf). The existing buildings and track facilities are to be demolished in phases and replaced by new constructions.

* Excavation of old ballast

* Track construction (substructure renewal, sub-ballast layer)

* Track drainage (including pump pressure line)

* Cable trench construction (cable ducts, cable pits and crossings)

* FL and SA foundations

* Relocation of various plant lines (Swisscom and Localnet, hydrant)

* Dismantling and restoration of temporary level crossings

* Embankments, service roads and ruderal areas
