Germany – Engineering design services – Westerweiterung der Deponie am Standort EVZ Mertesdorf - Planungsleistung Westerweiterung der Deponie am Standort EVZ Mertesdorf
Description
Part of the measures at the site of the EVZ Mertesdorf involves the orderly operation of a landfill in accordance with the requirements of the DepV. The facility has been operating since 1978 in accordance with the Planfeststellungsbeschluss of 05.10.1976 (Ref. 558-825) and the Plangenehmigungsbescheid of 19.03.2015 (Ref. 315-22-235-01/1975). Over time, several permits have been issued to develop additional landfill sections, which are used for the disposal of waste from landfill class II. The Plangenehmigungsbescheid of 27.05.2015 (Ref. 315-22-235-1/1975) set the maximum heights of the landfill volume, as well as modified the disposal limits and disposal quantities. Due to the disposed waste, the landfill is classified as landfill class DK II according to the DepV. The landfill ensures disposal safety in the A.R.T. association area. The Planfeststellungsfläche of the EVZ Mertesdorf is divided into the Ost landfill area and the West landfill area. The Ost landfill area is currently in operation and will soon reach the approved final heights in some areas. Currently, a surface sealing system is being implemented on some sub-areas (OBA II), while a surface sealing system has already been implemented on other sub-areas (OBA I). The landfill is divided into four landfill sections, with landfill sections DA 1 to DA 3 already fully filled and surfaced. Some sub-areas of these fully filled landfill areas are currently being sealed with a qualified surface sealing system. The current disposal operation is taking place in landfill section DA 4. The waste quantities from the remediation of the Saarburg landfill have also been compacted and integrated into this landfill section DA 4. Due to the additional quantities identified during the decommissioning of the landfill, the currently available remaining disposal volume at the Mertesdorf landfill will be significantly reduced. The remaining operating time of the decommissioned and operated landfill section DA 4 under current operating conditions is a few years. The continued operation of the landfill in the EVZ Mertesdorf is basically possible via landfill section DA 5, which is located in the western area of the site and is partially used for the interim storage of soils, surface water drainage facilities, and for administrative actions by the A.R.T. Most of the area of the future landfill section DA 5 is green and partially forested, and operational use does not take place in these areas. To further ensure disposal safety by the A.R.T., landfill section DA 5 is to be established. The future landfill section DA 5 is within the area approved for the construction and operation of a landfill.
