Belgium – Construction work for steel bridges – Vernieuwen balans Noordkasteelbrug Oost

The objective is to completely renew the balance structure of the Eastern Noordkasteel Bridge. The renewal of the balance of the Noordkasteel Bridge is an intervention to continue to guarantee the initially proposed lifespan. The scope of the works on the eastern bridge includes, in order of magnitude:

- Renewal of balance arm incl. wind braces

- Renewal of connections between balance and box, and possible renewal of box (+ filling)

- Renewal of tie rods

- Review and possible limited repairs (e.g. shock absorbers) to trunnion beams

- Precise measurement of A, B, C and D hinges

- Detailed weighing of the flight in order to be able to verify the design assumptions

- Replacement of main pivot points East Bridge (A+B+C+D bearings) cf. current configuration

- Optimisation of all bearings East Bridge

- Repair of A-hinge anchors

- Provision of secondary steel (handrails, ladders, platforms) as specified

- All necessary dismantling and assembly works

With the condition of retaining the existing flights, seat, trunnion beams, drive and electrical installations. In addition to the renovation works on the east bridge, some safety measures must be taken on the west bridge; These include limited adjustment works on secondary steel (handrails, ladders, platforms). Additionally, the contractor may be appointed to carry out urgent repairs to the west bridge in the event of emergencies/disruptions, during the works on the east bridge, in order to minimise interruptions and delays for all traffic modes.
