Background and Objectives

Initial Situation: With the introduction of the modularised Sheet 100 (April 2024, Issue 2025/02), the regulatory framework shifted from the prescriptive formula to the performance concept. Sheet 100 Module A defines an "extremely high" protective duration of at least 50 years under Corrosivity Category C5 – exceeding DIN EN ISO 12944. Problem: The 50-year protective duration is not scientifically justified (no laboratory tests/research). It is based on experience with the old regulatory framework, increased testing requirements and total coating thickness. Research Objective: Verification of the protective duration assumption, determination of the correlation between testing requirements and protective duration, long-term exposure (9 years Phase 1, up to 53 years in total).
