Description

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie GmbH (HZB) is an independent scientific research centre under the umbrella of the Helmholtz Association with locations in Berlin-Adlershof and Wannsee. The electron storage ring BESSY II delivers high-brilliance synchrotron radiation from the terahertz to the X-ray range. With its focus on VUV and soft X-ray radiation, BESSY II is excellently suited for the analysis of energy materials and thin-film systems. The further development of the instrumentation and the development of a concept for a successor source (BESSY III) are among the most important tasks for the coming years. *** The upgrade programme “BESSY II+”: This programme enables the advancement of cutting-edge research at BESSY II and the testing of new concepts with regard to the successor source BESSY III. BESSY is to become an “Operando Synchrotron for the Energy Transition”. BESSY II+ includes new experimental possibilities, in particular for operando investigations. These allow, for example, the observation of batteries or solar cells “in operation”. In addition to the new “operando” possibilities, the BESSY II+ project also focuses on the topics of “modernisation” and “sustainability”. Sustainability includes, among other things, the use of waste heat from the experimental hall of BESSY II. In addition, methods of machine learning and artificial intelligence are increasingly being integrated into many processes. As part of the modernisation project, HZB has received additional funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). “Invest BESSY II+” includes the most important investments for this BMBF-supported project. This funding secures the development of new infrastructures, such as the SoTeXS instrument (Soft-to-Tender X-ray Spectroscopy). This is a comprehensive concept for metrological, multimodal experiments that can be used for research on batteries and materials for energy applications. *** For the SoTeXS beamline, we require the following vacuum chambers: --- - Lot 1 - 1x M3 vacuum chamber - Lot 2 - 1x focusing chamber - Lot 3 - 1x slit chamber
