Description
The Max Planck Society plans to construct a new research building as an extension of the existing listed Max-Planck-Institut für medizinische Forschung in Heidelberg. The building site and the existing institute are located in the southern part of the Neuenheimer Feld on the Neckar. The extension building has a total usable area of 6,410 m² (NUF1-7) and a BRI of 72,922 m³. The extension building is planned according to the specifications of an urban planning feasibility study as a 10-storey high-rise building with a maximum building height of 45.25 m plus a technical center on the roof and an underground special laboratory area in the south. The special laboratory area is structurally separated from the basement of the high-rise building due to the high requirements for vibration protection. The new building will be connected to the existing institute building via above and below-ground connecting structures. The above-ground connection is part of this measure. The below-ground connection has already been completed on the construction site. The new building will provide space for high-vibration-sensitive laboratories, physical laser rooms, biochemical S1 laboratories and two S2 laboratories, a cleanroom area. Additionally, a precision mechanical and electronic workshop, chemical and hazardous material storage, and server rooms will be accommodated. Furthermore, offices, meeting rooms, a cafeteria, and lounges will be provided. The estimated construction costs for sections 300+400 amount to 67,900,000 € (net), and the total construction costs (sections 200-700, excluding 611 and 612) amount to 85,230,000 € (net). The outdoor facilities around the Max-Planck-Institut and the new building are to form a coherent research campus with high-quality living spaces and plenty of greenery. The northern forecourt will receive a uniform concrete paving, barrier-free access, and a common fire service movement area, while "green terraces" will compensate for the height difference to the eastern access road with planted steel elements, benches, and bicycle and car parking spaces. In the south, an intensively landscaped garden with lawns, perennials, raised beds, seating areas, and extensively landscaped secondary roofs will be created above the special laboratories; a high substrate structure and a cistern will enable the storage and use of rainwater for irrigation. The historic forecourt of the existing building will be preserved in its design language, adapted to new access requirements, and supplemented with bicycle parking spaces, while the southern garden will be functionally and aesthetically enhanced by new tree structures, de-sealing, additional parking spaces, and enclosed technical areas (tanks, gas storage with landscaping). To the west and south of the new building, escape routes will be renewed, vegetation initially removed and replaced by new plantings; roof gardens and terraces on several upper floors will provide additional living spaces with intensively landscaped, partly extensive roof areas and views of the Neckar, campus, and open spaces. The meetings in the course of the execution will take place in Heidelberg and by virtual meeting. At the time of the invitation to tender / award, the project is in LPH 5. The contractor must coordinate with the architect commissioned by the client. The special requirements for the provision of services may make it necessary to be available for frequent / short-notice coordination meetings on site in Heidelberg or at the General Administration of the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft in Munich at the client's request.
