To improve the infrastructure of the state capital of Hannover, Stadtentwässerung Hannover plans to build the new central building of the Hannover-Herrenhausen wastewater treatment plant. Stadtentwässerung Hannover operates the Hannover-Herrenhausen wastewater treatment plant at Dunenweg 20 in Hannover Herrenhausen, with a current capacity for 500,000 inhabitants. The wastewater treatment plant consists of a mechanical plant section, a central section, and a biological plant section, all of which are physically separated from each other. The entire wastewater treatment plant is currently undergoing a renovation phase, during which numerous renovations and expansions are planned for the coming years. One part of the planned renovation is the new construction of the central building of the Hannover Herrenhausen wastewater treatment plant. The current operations building with workshops and storage, water treatment, and parking is located in the central section of the Hannover-Herrenhausen wastewater treatment plant. The central building is over 40 years old, does not meet many of today's requirements, and is in need of renovation. An expansion of the existing central building is not planned. For the new construction of the operations building, a plot of land has been designated in the biological section of the wastewater treatment plant, west of the Leine, between the access road to the north and the railway line to the south. The new central building consists of two partial buildings, the 5-storey social building and the single-storey workshop building. Gross floor area (GFA) social building: GFA 4,753 m², GFA 25 m² workshop building: GFA 2,852 m², GFA 419 m² total: GFA 7,605 m², GFA 444 m² Net usable floor area (NUFA) social building: NUFA 2,398 m² workshop building: NUFA 2,374 m² total: NUFA 4,772 m² The social building is planned to include the following uses: - Kitchen for preparing approx. 50 meals per day, including storage and social rooms - Dining hall for 100 people - Seminar/meeting room - Changing and shower facilities black/white for 130 people - Office/administration - Technical areas The workshop building includes the following uses: - Workshop maintenance and operation (W1) - Workshop technical occupational safety (W2) - Mechanic/MSR workshop (W3) - Locksmith workshop (W4) - Electrical workshop (W5) - Training workshop (W6) - Office and ancillary areas assigned to the individual workshops The new building is positioned parallel to the railway line to the south. Due to the narrow and very long plot of land, the individual workshops are lined up in a 120 m long, single-storey hall. To the east, a 5-storey head building with canteen, kitchen, changing rooms, offices, and technical control centre is attached. Coming from the east via the bridge, the head building is already visible from afar as the address for the biological section of the wastewater treatment plant. The canteen, as the most lively and publicly effective area, is immediately recognisable to the arriving visitor with its three-sided glazed facades. The folded roof unites halls and head building into an architectural unit. To the north, towards the access road, the workshop halls retreat under the folded roof. The folded roof serves here as weather protection for the building entrances and access roads. All delivery areas (workshops, kitchen) are arranged on one level and are accessed from the north. Stadtentwässerung wants to build ecologically and sustainably as an environmental service. The basis for the preliminary planning is therefore the concept of hybrid timber construction, in which concrete components such as ceilings, walls, and substructures are largely replaced by timber components or the proportion of concrete components is minimised. The hybrid timber construction method should also be reflected externally in the facade material. The building will therefore have a vertical timber cladding. A narrow concrete plinth serves as weather protection for the timber facade. The building is located in the landscape area of the Leinemasch. The choice of the natural facade material wood and the shape of the folded and planted roof (roof landscape) support the integration of the building into this landscape area. It is intended to award the contract as a general contractor contract. As part of the general contractor contract, the necessary construction services are to be provided by a single company.
