The Vehicle and Equipment Management (FGM) of the Waste Management Services (AWB) Cologne is currently facing the challenge that, due to the lack of telematics systems, no reliable and detailed analyses of vehicle usage – including avoidable damage, efficiency and utilisation – can be carried out. Without a reliable data basis, optimisation potentials in the areas of fuel consumption, vehicle maintenance and resource utilisation cannot be fully exploited. For the scheduling and distribution of AWB Cologne, it is also becoming increasingly important to digitally document the services performed. In the short term, AWB Cologne wants to digitalise the legally compliant documentation of service provision, measured by the use of vehicles and attachments, and increase tamper resistance. In particular, the mapping of the service provision of all winter service vehicles by the beginning of Q4/2026 represents the first priority. In addition, the remote download of tachograph data is to replace the previous manual reading.
