Description

Rijkswaterstaat (RWS) has begun replacing the current traffic signal systems (VRI’s) with intelligent traffic signal systems (iVRI’s). The reason for this is that the iVRI is the new standard and facilitates nationally specific user groups, such as prioritising emergency and assistance services (including road inspectors), logistics and cyclists. In recent years, RWS has, in a first tranche, replaced or converted 19 VRI’s to iVRI. The experience with these first iVRI’s is that they can add value in achieving policy goals aimed at optimising traffic flow and prioritising specific user groups as described above. The contract concerns the delivery, implementation and management of C-ITS applications (Cooperative Intelligent Transportation Systems) for iVRI’s (intelligent traffic signal systems). For further information, see the Descriptive document.
