Hamburg Energiewerke GmbH (HEnW) is a 100% municipal energy supplier. To achieve the climate goals of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the share of coal-based district heating is to be reduced from the current approximately 64% to zero by 2030. To this end, the "Tiefstack Transformation (TiTra)" program has been initiated. At the Heizkraftwerk (HKW) Tiefstack site, two hard coal-fired steam generators currently generate electricity and district heating in CHP operation. To decarbonize this site, it is planned to substitute the fuel hard coal with natural gas (H-Gas). Additionally, the steam generators are to be able to be operated temporarily with heating oil EL (HEL low-sulfur according to DIN 51603-1).
