The Barkhausen Primary School is located in the city of Porta Westfalica at 15 Ostfeldstraße in the OT Barkhausen district. The school consists of a main building from 1909, which houses the classrooms exclusively. The administration and additional classrooms are located in the 1964 extension. The current sports hall with auditorium and canteen with OGS rooms, as well as a decommissioned teaching pool including ancillary rooms, are located adjacent to the schoolyard as a separate building complex at Alte Poststr. 48. Several years ago, the renovation of the primary school site began. In the 1st phase, completed in 2023, the old building from 1909 was renovated. In the 2nd phase, to be completed in 2026, the 1964 extension will be renovated. In the 2nd phase, the OGS rooms were created, and a canteen was erected as an interim solution so that the building complex could be vacated for the 3rd phase. The heating system, located in the basement, supplies the current building complex of the 3rd phase via a district heating line. In the 3rd phase, the 1964 building complex consisting of the sports hall, auditorium, canteen, and OGS rooms, as well as a decommissioned teaching pool and ancillary rooms, is to be replaced by a new sports hall with a canteen on the same site.
