The GBN Wohnungsunternehmen GmbH - hereinafter GBN - intends to cooperate with the Stadt Nienburg/Weser - hereinafter City - to fundamentally reorder and develop a centrally located existing building in a prominent city centre location in the long term. The building at Lange Straße 31/33 is located in an architecturally sensitive and identity-shaping environment with high public visibility and great importance for the daily life of the city society. Its location in the urban fabric characterised by the architectural style of the Weser Renaissance gives it a special responsibility for the spatial, functional and social quality of the city centre and thus also shapes the market square to some extent. In view of changing usage requirements, altered social needs and current challenges in the areas of sustainability, climate protection and resource conservation, the building is to undergo a comprehensive transformation. The aim is to develop a open, lively and future-oriented place from an ageing existing building in large panel construction, which combines public and private uses in a high-quality manner. The core of the realignment is the establishment of a city library on the ground floor as a publicly accessible, low-threshold educational and meeting place in the sense of a "third place". In addition, residential uses are to be created in the upper floors, which will strengthen inner-city living and contribute to the revitalisation of the city centre. Through this vertical mix of uses, a building is to be created that is active both during the day and in the evening, on weekdays and at the weekend, and thus contributes to the permanent stabilisation and revitalisation of the city centre.
