Description

As BEW Berliner Energie und Wärme, we have been 100% owned by the State of Berlin since 2 May 2024. We reliably and comfortably supply approximately 700,000 apartments and around 8,000 other buildings in the capital with district heating. In addition, we also offer locally generated district cooling and individual, decentralised energy solutions. The "Reuter Solid Fuel CHP" project involves the planning and construction of a plant for the energetic use of waste wood and biomass at the Reuter West site. The aim is to provide district heating and electricity as part of combined heat and power (CHP). The plant is designed for a maximum combustion heat output of 110 MW. In bypass operation of the steam turbine, a district heating output of up to 90 MW is planned. In addition, a flue gas condensation system and a heat pump are part of the plant concept to increase energy efficiency. The electrical output of the plant depends on the final process engineering design and the district heating output and is currently estimated at approximately 20 MW. The plant is designed for the use of different types of biomass to enable flexible and demand-oriented operation. The main fuels are waste wood and natural biomass, in particular landscape maintenance material, agricultural wood and yields from short rotation plantations. The scope of the project includes, in addition to the CHP plant itself, retrofit and replacement measures on existing infrastructure facilities, in particular on the ship unloader and the raw water pumping station. Furthermore, the project includes the planning and construction of a central water treatment plant, including the district heating water treatment and partial desalination. The total investment currently amounts to approximately 400 million EUR (gross).
