A large part of the materials studied at the GREMI is in the form of coatings a few tens of nanometers thick, up to two micrometers. These coatings are generally based on transition metals, purely metallic or of the oxide/nitride type. The thinnest of these can be composed of carbon nanostructures, while others can include heterogeneities such as nanoparticles. More recently, the laboratory has been interested in the synthesis or surface modification of porous materials such as foams or disordered carbons, as well as the development of soft materials such as biological materials. Currently, the laboratory does not have equipment to measure the adhesion and surface mechanical properties of these materials.
