The municipality of Sonnefeld is a vibrant and attractive community in the Coburg district. Located in a traffic-favourable position near the A 73 and B303 and close to the cities of Lichtenfels and Coburg, it is an attractive place to live, which also has a steady demand for housing due to the numerous businesses located here. In the preparatory investigations for the town centre, the potential of the area known as the Domänenwiese was already identified in 2019 and recommended for urban development. Now that the municipality has acquired the abandoned industrial site, which lies between residential development and the popular event venue "Domäne", the opportunity arises to implement the urban development goals. The demand for housing is to be met at this attractive, centrally located site in the scenic natural area of the Biberbach with a new quarter. This should explicitly not be a "classic" new development area with detached houses, but rather a dense and mixed quarter development that can be implemented in phases and by several actors. It is planned to give local investors, building groups or building cooperatives the opportunity to realise a wide range of offers in various construction phases and construction areas on the basis of a coherent master plan. An important part of the overall concept is a free space system that is appropriate to the landscape, taking into account the outskirts of the town, footpath connections and retention functions. The area of the implementation area is approximately 4 ha; the idea part comprises approximately 1 ha.
