Germany – Gas chromatographs – Lieferung und Installation eines Analysensystems für die Kopplung von Gaschromatographie-Tandem-Massenspektrometrie

A new gas chromatography system with a mass spectrometric detector (Triple-Quadrupole) and atmospheric pressure ionisation is to be procured for the Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG). The key feature of the measurement system to be procured is the use of atmospheric pressure ionisation (APCI), as this allows for soft ionisation. The BfG must provide analytical solutions for numerous new pollutants, as these substances are or will be regulated by the Water Framework Directive, the Surface Waters Ordinance, or further developments of HABAB and GÜBAK. The new analytical system to be procured is to close this gap, as atmospheric pressure ionisation primarily produces molecular ions, resulting in significantly less fragmentation of the substances to be analysed. This allows for the detection and quantitative determination of fragmentation-sensitive analytes, such as pyrethroids and multiply halogenated hydrocarbons. The lower fragmentation also benefits the determination of other substances, as the analytical determination becomes much more secure due to the larger precursor masses. Thus, for certain substances, a significantly better measurement sensitivity and a greater reliability of the analytical measurement data can be achieved.
