The municipality of Morbach intends to carry out comprehensive renovation of a partial area and the expansion of the Kindertagesstätte Gonzerath. The starting point of the measure is a water pipe damage in the extension building of the Kindertagesstätte, which was detected in 2024. During the damage removal, it was found that due to the contamination of the insulation located in the floor structure, a complete dismantling of the affected building part is necessary. During the demolition work, another significant construction defect was discovered, which could not be attributed to the water damage. Therefore, a mere restoration of the previous building stock is neither technically nor economically sensible. At the same time, there is an additional spatial adaptation and expansion requirement due to the provisions of the Kindertagesstättengesetz Rheinland-Pfalz (KiTa-Zukunftsgesetz). The existing areas no longer fully meet the current functional requirements for operating a three-group Kindertagesstätte. In particular, additional areas for a kitchen with catering for up to 60 children, food and household rooms, a bistro or multifunctional area, further rest and ancillary rooms, storage areas and additional traffic areas are required. To create the necessary expansion areas, the municipality has acquired an immediately adjacent property. Thus, there are now the planning and actual prerequisites to further develop the Kindertagesstätte location in the long term and to cover the future space requirements. The subject of the measure is therefore not only the renovation of the existing water damage, but the holistic structural and functional reorganisation of the location. The renovation of part of the existing building, including the removal of the existing damage, and the construction of an extension building on the newly acquired areas are planned. In addition, the outdoor facilities must be adapted to the new building structure and functionally and aesthetically reordered. The aim is to create a modern, economical and sustainable Kindertagesstätte that meets the requirements of the KiTa-Zukunftsgesetz and enables long-term future-proof operation. It must be taken into account that the construction and renovation work must be carried out during the ongoing operation of the Kindertagesstätte in the existing building.
