Description

The canal network of the automatic wagon transport system (AWT) connects the buildings at the Universitätsklinik Düsseldorf and ensures the supply and disposal of the clinic's operations. The AWT system operates with two different transport systems: a rail-guided, ceiling-suspended system (EHB - electric overhead monorail) and an automated guided vehicle system (AGV). Both systems are connected by transfer stations, where the AWT containers are unloaded. Special AWT elevators transport the wagons within the buildings from the underground AWT area to the respective target level. The AWT canal network has grown steadily and now extends 550m in both the north-south and east-west directions, with a total length of approximately 3.0 km. Since it is planned to connect further buildings to the canal system in the future, the building authority requires a future-proof overall fire protection concept.
