UZ Gent wishes to automate the distribution of medicines from the pharmacy. Within the hospital, a distribution model has been chosen in which the focus is centrally located in the pharmacy. Medicines will be delivered to the hospitalisation services, at most, per patient, per 24 hours (if necessary, lower or higher frequency) from the pharmacy. Classical hospitalisation services will have only a limited service stock, namely for the start of therapies. For critical services (e.g. emergency, intensive care, operating theatre), polyclinics, day clinics, extended decentralised stocks will be provided. The entire process from prescription to administration will be designed as efficiently and safely as possible. Manual actions will be limited by using devices for automated reconditioning into traceable unit doses, in combination with devices that can also fully automatically produce patient therapies from a unit dose magazine. Unit doses that are not administered must also be easily returned to the pharmacy stock with the corresponding administrative processing by these devices. This ambition aims, on the one hand, to increase the efficiency of picking and consolidation in the pharmacy and to limit picking errors by maximising the automation of these processes. In addition, this order aims to maximally relieve nurses of picking activities and the preparation of medication. At the same time, patient safety is increased by further evolution towards closed-loop medication management. Concretely, we aim to meet the essential boundary conditions for a future implementation of bedside scanning through the production of traceable unit doses and the automation of therapy distribution. This order includes a maintenance contract and also a framework agreement for the required disposables. UZ Gent is looking for a supplier to jointly develop and shape this concept of automation. Important values in this are flexibility, safety, traceability, sustainability, redundancy and efficiency. Furthermore, UZ Gent has started a new construction project (Project U) in which the pharmacy may be provided with a new logistics platform. All delivered or installed devices must be easily movable to the new location.
