The City of Karlsruhe, represented by the Karlsruhe Road Construction Office, is constructing a new laboratory and administrative building. The new building will be erected on the site of the Karlsruhe Sewage Treatment Plant and will, in the future, bring together the laboratory and operational buildings, which are currently separate on the site, under one roof. A construction site along the existing main access road to the sewage treatment plant and adjacent to the street -An der Wässerung- is planned centrally on the west side of the sewage treatment plant site. Together with the two-story gate building, a gate situation is created that, in particular, serves the function of a main access road and a control point. Various supply and disposal lines run above or around the construction site, which will be reordered and relocated as part of preparatory infrastructure measures. To the north, opposite the access road, central parking spaces for employees, some with e-charging stations, will be newly created. The laboratory and administrative building is designed as a three-winged building complex with a main access axis and administrative wing connected transversely to the west. The longitudinal sides of the building with the main working areas face north and south. The uses are divided over a total of 3 full floors as well as a technical superstructure recessed to the east side. The external dimensions are approximately 56.00 x 25.00 m. The building is located within the enclosure of the entire site with a mesh fence and is subject to security requirements according to Kritis requirements. Due to flood hazards and high groundwater levels, the building will be elevated on the existing site and a basement will be omitted. The following uses are planned: On the ground floor, there is public access to the building with vertical access via stairs and elevator with a gatehouse. This is followed by the laboratory unit with offices, service rooms and laboratories of protection level S2. On the 1st floor, in addition to the administration with offices and meeting rooms, changing rooms for the sewage treatment plant staff and the control room of the sewage treatment plant are located. On the 2nd floor, further administrative uses with offices, meeting rooms, training rooms and a canteen area are planned. The entire building services are housed in the technical centre on the 3rd floor. The roof surfaces will be extensively greened and offer installation areas for a PV system.
