Description

The planned new construction of the Allmend Primary School aims to create a future-proof, sustainable, and pedagogically functional infrastructure for primary school grades 1 to 6. The four-story building will be constructed using conventional timber construction methods on the school site and will replace the existing outdoor sports facility ("Roter Platz"). The geological and hydrogeological conditions on the site are considered challenging. In particular, two separate groundwater aquifers must be taken into account. The building site requires a pile foundation (concrete displacement bored piles), also for utility lines and inspection shafts (timber piles). With regard to flood protection, the new building meets the HQ300 requirements. The building services are located on the ground floor and the top floor (no basement) to avoid damage from flooding. The building's load-bearing structure is based on a solid timber frame made of Fi/Ta. This is supplemented by three massive service cores made of reinforced concrete. The spiral staircases between the service cores are also made of reinforced concrete. The facade consists of prefabricated timber-framed external elements. The building will be certified according to SNBS 2.1 Construction (the target is Gold Certification). The energy supply is provided via a connection to the local district heating network SeeEnergy (winter heat, summer cooling water). All areas will be equipped with underfloor heating. All floor coverings are made of polished industrial concrete and serve as thermal storage and light free-cooling with regard to summer overheating hours. The control is carried out via room thermostats according to the specified setpoint. A building-integrated photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof to generate electricity, which will serve as the roof covering. Brise-soleil construction made of metal along the east and west facades serve as sunshades and form the structural weather protection of the facade. In the building services sector, a mechanical ventilation system will only be installed in the areas of the inner cores and the auditorium. The classrooms will receive fresh air via manual natural window ventilation. The building is fully accessible. The planned school building with a total height of approximately 19 m in hybrid construction is considered a building of medium height. The fire protection planning is carried out according to quality level QSS 2 of the BS guideline of the VKF. The surrounding design is based on the design concept "Centre 1st + 2nd Phase" and contributes to the development of a uniform public space in the centre of Horw. The school playground will be designed as a traffic-free, publicly accessible space, taking into account its use outside of school hours. The school garden is exclusively for school use and is designed to be child-friendly and close to nature. In the sense of climate adaptation and biodiversity promotion.
