The renovation and extension of the Kunsthalle Emden shall ensure that the collection of the Kunsthalle Emden can be preserved and presented in accordance with the current standards of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). This requires a significant intervention in the building substance and the building services. The existing general building structure must be optimized and, if necessary, extended due to the acute need for space, in order to enable up-to-date storage, presentation, and, moreover, a stronger integration of cultural mediation work and exhibition operations. This also affects the structural and technical infrastructure, such as the layout of the rooms, visitor guidance and accessibility, which is not barrier-free.
