The Langen wastewater treatment plant is to be expanded to include a 4th purification stage for trace substance elimination. Based on a long-term research project at the plant, a process combination of cloth filtration and activated carbon filtration has been selected. In preparation for changing requirements for purification performance, provision is also to be made for a possible later expansion to include ozonation. Hydraulic connection to the existing infrastructure will be via an intermediate pumping station, which will convey the effluent from the conventional wastewater treatment to the new purification stage and will henceforth function as a floodwater pumping station.
