The Bonn-Netz GmbH has been operating UT for ArcGIS as a geoinformation system for cross-sector documentation and information on the network infrastructure since 2018. The operation is conducted on-premises in the internal IT infrastructure. Since the introduction of the system, both the technological framework conditions and the specialist requirements for a cross-sector GIS have developed significantly. The challenges of the energy transition are placing increasing demands on data quality and the analysis of the network infrastructure based on it. At the same time, increasing regulatory requirements, the growing digitalisation of network processes, and the increased need for interoperability with adjacent systems require an open and future-proof GIS platform. The announced end of support for the existing solution in Q1/2028 marks the concrete timeframe for the replacement and underlines the urgency of the project. The subject of the project is therefore the replacement of the existing GIS system and the transfer of the core GIS processes into a future-proof system environment. The three central process areas - network documentation, internal and external cable information, and data provision for follow-on systems - are to be fully mapped in the new solution. The new system environment is to be procured for an 8-year operating period with the option to extend by a further 4 years.
