Description

Short description - Project The Rhein-Sieg-Kreis is implementing the project "Back to the Future: Nature and Culture Experience Windeck/Sieg", funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), as part of REGIONALE 2025. The subject is the conservation-compliant and user-friendly enhancement of the Windeck Castle ruins in the municipality of Windeck, district of Altwindeck. The aim is to further develop the site into a barrier-free experience, stay and learning location and to integrate it more strongly into the regional tourism structure.

Project contents Outdoor facilities

The planned construction measures are divided into various components, which will be implemented to enhance the castle ruins:

- the construction of a barrier-free viewing platform at the plateau tip with a ramp, steps and seating,

- the barrier-free conversion and enhancement of the path from the car park to the castle/ viewing platform,

- the construction of a toilet facility

Special framework conditions

The castle ruin is a listed building and archaeological monument. The planning requires close coordination with the monument authorities as well as the responsible nature conservation and specialist authorities. Due to the location, the historical substance and the topographical conditions, interventions should be planned as gently as possible. In addition, nature conservation regulations, particularly with regard to lighting and cable routing, must be observed.
