Germany – Organisation of architectural design contests – Erkelenz, Fünf Dörfer; Wettbewerbssteuerer

The city of Erkelenz plans, as part of the revitalisation of the five villages of Keyenberg, Kuckum, Unterwestrich, Oberwestrich and Berverath on the edge of the Garzweiler opencast mine, the urban development of the centre of Keyenberg. The aim is to redesign the village centre to be future-proof, to strengthen its particular importance as a central space of the reclaimed villages and thus to create an identity-creating place that will significantly contribute to the (re-)vitalisation of the villages and to the fulfilment of essential functions of a liveable village centre in rural areas. Based on the planning to date, the city of Erkelenz plans to hold an urban design competition. The aim is to promote a high-quality and future-oriented urban development and to obtain the best possible planning concepts for this purpose. The competition management is being tendered here.
