The HafenCity Hamburg GmbH is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and acts as the implementing agency in the field of urban development. Its activities include the planning and construction of all public spaces and infrastructure, as well as the development coordination of the plots of land. With the urban development area Grasbrook, a mixed-use urban space with commercial and residential use, as well as attractive public open spaces, is being created on the southern bank of the Elbe on a total area of approximately 68 hectares, with which Hamburg is making the leap of the inner city to the south across the Elbe. The HafenCity Hamburg GmbH (HCH) sells the plots of land that have been made ready for construction, the development of the buildings and open spaces within the plot boundaries is carried out by private and public developers. Due to the ownership of the public development, the HCH makes a significant contribution to the implementation of the building development. In planning and implementation, therefore, it is necessary to manage the developers or their projects with regard to the interfaces and content-related qualities. This concerns both technical-logistical links in the planning and construction phase and functional requirements that are to be implemented for the entire duration of use of the buildings. The management services include both private and public construction projects, including any HCH-owned projects within the area. The aim is to ensure, through forward-looking organisation of the necessary processes, that the development of the building projects and the planning and implementation of the public development, engineering and bridge structures and open spaces proceed in a planned manner and as free from mutual interference as possible. The marketing and development of the plots of land takes place in different phases, which also differ in the type and scope of the required project management services.
