The planned Frankenhalle is a new three-court sports hall, primarily intended for the school operations of the Schulzentrum am Sund (also known as Campus am Sund). The existing school site is located on the edge of the historic old town, at the transition to the Frankenvorstadt. Both districts are densely populated and well connected. The "Schulzentrum am Sund" is a cooperative comprehensive school (KGS), where the regional and gymnasium school sections work and live together in an equal, social, and pedagogical association. The aim of the construction project is to build a modern, barrier-free three-court sports hall for approximately 1000 students in grades 5 to 12 of the Schulzentrum am Sund. The Hanseatic City of Stralsund plans to build this three-court sports hall on a neighboring property adjacent to the Schulzentrum "Am Sund". The basis for the planning of the new three-court sports hall is the development of a modern and contemporary sports hall, taking into account the requirements for barrier freedom, school sports, remedial teaching, all-day care, and leisure sports. The available construction site borders directly on the southern property boundary of the school campus. To the west of the construction site, there is a four- to five-story residential development, and to the south, a two- to four-story residential or commercial development. The construction of a future cycle and pedestrian path is planned at the eastern property edge and must be taken into account in further planning. The site is largely technically equipped. As part of the new planning, some public utilities need to be brought to the site. The three-court sports hall is to have, according to DIN, a playing field of 45.0 x 27.0 m, divisible into 3 playing fields of 27 x 15 m by two partition curtains. A rebound wall is planned all around. The floor will be designed as a force-reducing wooden sprung floor or area-elastic floor. The clear height of the sports hall is to be 7.0 m. The sports hall is intended for sports in competitive operation according to DIN 18032.
