Description

The project “Korridorsanierung Remagen – Mainz” encompasses the comprehensive renovation of the Left Rhine Line in the central region. The section under consideration extends from line 2630 rail-km 44.160 to line 3510 km 27.850 and has a total length of approximately 130 km. The renovation is part of the nationwide programme to upgrade the high-performance corridors and is scheduled to be implemented in the first half of 2028. The aim is to comprehensively modernise the infrastructure on the section between Remagen and Mainz. The route runs from the regional boundary north of Remagen via Koblenz and Bingen to Mainz. It thus includes, in accordance with § 11c para. 2 BSWAG, the entire high-performance corridor Koblenz–Mainz (No. 18) and the section of the high-performance corridor Hürth-Kalscheuren–Koblenz (No. 17) located in the central region. The project aims to improve the availability of the facilities and the network condition note of the route and to achieve an eight-year construction-free period after commissioning. As part of the corridor renovation, approximately 81 km of track, 102 points and almost 76 km of overhead line will be renewed in four construction sections between Remagen and Mainz. In addition, the construction of three passing loops and adaptations and new constructions of around 13 points heating systems are planned. Furthermore, the project includes extensive renovation measures on the tunnels Bank, Bett and Kammereck, the expansion and renovation of 25 traffic stations and the construction of five bridges, various culverts and retaining structures. The control and safety technology will be modernised in two construction phases. In the Koblenz junction and on the section from Gau-Algesheim to Budenheim, ESTW and DSTW technology will be constructed and commissioned in 2028. In the existing LST areas, necessary block compressions will also be implemented and GWB signals will be retrofitted as required. By switching from old technology to modern ESTW and DSTW technology, optimised block compression, additional track change operation, higher points speeds and improved bypass options, the operational quality on the route is to be sustainably improved. The project is divided into four construction sections. The awarding plan SbaD has been drawn up according to these four lots.
