The municipality of Ransbach Baumbach operates, for the treatment of the sewage generated from the respective catchment areas, in addition to the main sewage treatment plant Hundsdorf (design size 17,250 PE), inter alia, the mechanical-biological sewage treatment plant Haiderbach (design size 3,000 PE) as well as the two pond sewage treatment plants Sessenbach (design size 900 PE) and Wirscheid (design size 400 PE). It is planned to operate the sewage treatment plant Hundsdorf in the future as the central plant for the treatment of the sewage sludge from all the sewage treatment plants operated by the municipality. The expansion measures required for this (including the conversion of the process management to sludge digestion) are already in the planning stage. The planning of the further centralisation measures (conversion work at the KA Haiderbach; connection of the pond sewage treatment plants Wirscheid and Sessenbach to the KA Hundsdorf) will be tendered in separate specialist lots. The subject of this lot is the conversion measures at the KA Haiderbach. The sewage treatment plant Haiderbach was commissioned in 1998 as a mechanical-biological sewage treatment plant for a design size of 3,000 PE. The plant is overloaded in view of the increased inflow loads with regard to the then sewage treatment target with simultaneous sludge stabilisation. In the future, the connection of the pond sewage treatment plant Kausen of the municipality Dierdorf to the sewage treatment plant is also planned. To implement this, the plant is to be equipped with a pre-settling tank according to a study from 2025, according to the solution identified there as the preferred alternative 3, and is to be operated in the future only as a nutrient-eliminating sewage treatment plant.
