AGV has included in the current SGBP (Water Management Plan) the construction of 3 DFI’s (via the Water Management Programme) at 3 different locations. The 3 DFI’s to be constructed, in combination with other measures, contribute to achieving these goals. The installations are designed on the basis of 'upflow iron sand technology'. This means that water is passed from bottom to top through beds of iron sand, where phosphate adheres to the iron sand and the purified water can be discharged into waters in (vulnerable) nature reserves.
