Description

UZ Leuven Campus Gasthuisberg will provide 10 rooms for radionuclide therapy for treatments with the radioactive substances Lu-177, Ac-225, Ra-223 and Ra-224, of which 4 rooms will be specifically equipped to also be suitable for iodine therapies (I-131 therapy). Approximately 150 l/day of wastewater will be generated per room, mainly from the shower, sink and toilet. For a therapy department with 10 beds, this amounts to approximately 1,500 l/day of wastewater accumulation. In case of high occupancy and much shower water, this volume can increase to 1,700 l/day, and this during limited periods of 2 weeks. The wastewater is treated in a wastewater treatment plant provided for this purpose, located in the technical spaces on the two floors below the patient rooms. After treatment, the wastewater will only contain low levels of radioactive substances in the order of Bq/l to kBq/l. The sample that is analysed with the germanium detection system originates from this wastewater treatment plant. The contract consists of the following aspects: 1. The delivery, installation and commissioning on site of the measurement system with radioactivity determination (Bq/l) by a germanium detector so that it can be tested against the legal discharge limits (minimum detectable activity in the 10 to 1,000 Bq/l range). 2. The delivery, installation and commissioning of the accompanying software system to be able to carry out the radionuclide identification and the activity determination in Bq/l as well as the reporting. 3. Maintenance and periodic calibration 4. Training. More information can be found in the annexes. Annex 6 - Inventory Annex 7 - Maintenance Sheet
