Description

The Fire Extinguishing Systems Department operates a large portion of the fire extinguishing systems at Munich Airport. The buildings and facilities covered by this contract are located in both the public and non-public areas of Munich Airport. In addition to the sprinkler systems, there are wall hydrant systems in many buildings such as terminals, parking garages, and many other buildings at Munich Airport. The water-based fire extinguishing systems at Munich Airport are supplied from a central fire water network with a supply pressure of approximately 10 bar. The supply is usually via a single building connection (main shut-off valve). In some cases, the systems are also supplied via a branch from the sprinkler distributor from sprinkler central units. The wall hydrants are to be maintained annually based on recognized technical rules, legal requirements and manufacturer specifications. Depending on the requirement or necessity, simultaneous measurements are also to be carried out on the hydrant systems. Additionally, according to the Safety Equipment Inspection Ordinance (SPrüfV) valid in Bavaria https://www.gesetze-bayern.de/Content/Document/BaySPruefV, the operational safety and effectiveness of the systems must be confirmed by an expert (competent person) at least every 3 years. In areas at risk of frost, predominantly in parking garages, the wall hydrant systems are designed as wet/dry systems with filling and emptying stations (FES). In addition to the annual maintenance of the hydrants, the maintenance of the respective FES with periodic replacement of wear parts (such as membranes, batteries, etc.), filling time measurement, checking of the venting and deaeration and the emptying must also be carried out. In addition to the wall hydrant systems, there are also dry risers which must be tested at least every 2 years according to DIN 14462. In the aircraft hangars, there are wall hydrants with the possibility of foam additive mixing by means of Z2 mixer and provision of a 60 l foam additive container. Since some of the systems are older existing systems (> 30 years), corresponding age-related maintenance measures are also to be expected.
