The contract concerns a main enterprise contract covering the remediation of pollution at Himmark Strand on Als. The pollution is one of the 10 legacy contaminations. The purpose of the remediation is to ensure that the pollution no longer poses a risk to the aquatic environment. By removing the pollution, the aim is also to ensure that the area can be used recreationally, including lifting the bathing ban and the warning against fishing. The main enterprise includes environmental remediation of two coastal areas on the east coast of Als, outside the village of Himmark. The areas of intervention are located partly on beach areas/beach meadows and partly on the lake territory and amount to 10,000 m² and 35,000 m² respectively. The areas of intervention are temporarily enclosed, so that the water level can be lowered, and excavation and soil handling can be carried out relatively dry. The enclosure on the lake territory is carried out by stone casting with a water-repellent screen wall, which in some areas is anchored to an anchor screen. The remediation is carried out by excavation, and contaminated soil is transported to soil treatment at approved soil receivers. It is expected that approximately 125,000 tons of contaminated soil will be removed. Furthermore, it is expected that some soil in addition to this can be reused for backfilling within the area. Pumped groundwater and seawater is led to a treatment plant, which is established on the beach. The treatment plant is expected to be able to treat up to 70 m³ per hour as peak load. As part of the preventive measures in relation to environmental impact, it is expected that eelgrass will be planted on 60,000 m² near the project. Similarly, 6,000 m² of artificial reefs are to be established nearby. To carry out the work, a construction site must be established, existing roads must be rerouted, and a temporary access road must be established. Affected areas must be restored.
