Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbHGermanyPublished on Aug 16, 2026
No deadline given

Description

**Initial situation** Renewable energy (RE), for example generated with sun and wind, is strongly increasing in India. By mid-2023, it reached 13 percent of national power generation. However, a rapid RE expansion in a power system mainly based on coal and oil brings enormous operational, regulatory, and structural challenges. RE power supply is affected by seasonal, time-of-day, and weather-dependent fluctuations. Therefore, state authorities and energy supply companies must take measures to balance the fluctuations and ensure a reliable power supply.

**Objective** The Indian power market is being prepared for the future to enable a higher RE share.

**Approach** The project advises national and federal state authorities in India to adapt, create, and implement the framework for a future power market within the energy transition. It also trains specialists and executives of the authorities so they can create, adapt, and implement the regulations and incentives that reform the power market. In doing so, the project specifically promotes women by developing gender-sensitive training and organizing networking and mentoring programs. In addition, the project develops and implements a demonstration project that creates innovative, gender-sensitive services for power suppliers. It shows them how to adapt the power grid to fluctuations. The project also promotes dialogue between national and federal state stakeholders through expert events.
