Description

The municipality of Wurster Nordseeküste intends to enhance the attractiveness of the promenade in Dorum-Neufeld and improve the quality of stay on the tourist-used foreshore areas. The promenade in the area of the Grünstrand in Dorum-Neufeld is one of the oldest tourist infrastructure facilities on the Wurster Nordseeküste and dates back to the early days of tourism in the municipality of Dorum, being at least 50 years old. The appearance of the approximately 800-metre-long promenade, as the heart of tourism in the district of Dorum-Neufeld, is very concrete-heavy and grey, and thus unattractive. Overall, the promenade gives the impression of an aged technical bulwark that is more designed to withstand storm surges than to focus on the attractiveness and benefits for the quality of stay of beach guests. The concrete elements are brittle and eroded due to age and exposure. The staircases leading down to the mudflats are also not barrier-free. The maintenance effort for the entire area has increased significantly, and the success of the maintenance measures is not sustainable. Behind the promenade, where the Grünstrand should directly adjoin, the shore protection has not held up over the decades on a total area of approximately 4,000 m², and has been washed away again despite annual maintenance measures with earthworks and grass seeding. From the municipality's perspective, the only permanent solution to secure the grass area of the beach adjoining the promenade is to pave this slightly sloping area. As part of an enhancement measure, additional added value for the quality of stay of guests must of course be created. Year-round seating, improved quality of stay, and barrier-free access to the mudflats, etc., should also be brought into focus. In addition to the enhancement, the new construction or reinforcement of the deck structure in the beach area is an important part of the overall measure. The exposed location in the foreshore must of course be taken into account. The infrastructure must be storm surge-proof. Funding for this measure will be applied for from the NBank under the Tourism Promotion Directive. In addition, an application for funding has already been submitted to the NLWKN for the area of new construction of the deck structure and reinforcement of the deck structure. ASP Atelier Schreckenberg Planungsgesellschaft mbH has provided a first draft of the preliminary investigation and preliminary planning.
